Terry Golson has always loved having animals around. Growing up, she had a guinea pig, a dog, cats, and wished for a horse. She got a BS in animal science from UNH and for awhile, she rode horses for a living.
Terry's food career started at a health spa in Pennsylvania. She cooked there for almost three years during which time she worked her way up to sous chef and taught the cooking classes. From there, Terry moved to Boston, where she continued to teach cooking, and worked in a number of food establishments, including bakeries and a French cafe.
Terry has written for numerous publications, including The Boston Herald, and Cooking Light Magazine. In 1990, Terry's first cookbook, For Goodness Sake was published. It was a James Beard Award nominee. Later came Wholehearted Cooking and then 1,000 Lowfat Recipes. In May of 2006, St. Martin's Press published her Farmstead Egg Cookbook.
Not only did Terry's chickens inspire her to write her first children's book, but they star in it as well! Tillie Lays an Egg was published by Scholastic Press in January 2009. Terry maintains a live-streaming webcam on her flock of hens (and soon on her goats.) She also blogs about the goings on at her Little Pond Farm. Terry has been called a "chicken celebrity" and has become a well-known advocate for backyard poultry keeping.
Terry lives in a small town west of Boston with her husband, two sons, two dogs, a rabbit, two small goats, numerous (and rather unattractive) koi, and a small flock of hens. Watch a video of Terry and her chickens here.
